There was another minus tide today. Walking the beach at low tide is sometimes disgusting, sometimes surprising, but always interesting. Each tide pool is a miniature world with two or three kinds of crabs, tiny flatfish, bullhead fish, sea anemones, algae, limpets, periwinkles, mussels, and on and on. When you approach, all the mobile creatures rush for cover in the seaweed and rock fissures, but if you watch for a while they get used to your presence and go about their business. Its like peering into another dimension. We used to spend hours watching tide pools as children, and when my grandmother visited from California, she was just as avid a spectator. Her curiosity and enthusiasm for every new experience made her a great companion for children, and unlike my busy parents, she would always be ready to go to the beach. She scheduled her visits for minus tides.
Wow Dana, your pictures are beautiful. I love to walk on the beach. I grew up on the beach in Southern California. Very different but the smell of the ocean is one I associate with home. I love the rugged wild rocky beaches in our area. How wonderful you only have to go out your door and your there. Thanks for sharing the beauty with the rest of us. -Renee
