Summertime and the lavender's in bloom...a good thing too, since I needed something to go with my best tablecloth. I made it quite some time ago and its colors are mostly gray and yellow, with a center of gray, purplish blue. It is hard to find flowers that don't overwhelm it, but lavender works pretty well. The yellow/gray motif is a perfect reflection of the kind of summer we have had so far. Days of heavy rain and glowering clouds shot with periods of bright and welcome sunshine. This weekend we planned to attend a garden tour with friends from our old neighborhood, (the amazing gardeners, in fact). The two days before we were just deluged with rain, but garden tour day turned out lovely and we had a wonderful time, ending up at our house for dinner.
For this table I used my yellow plates and the sterling silverware with gray votive candles and silver vases full of lavender. I started with a larger container of lavender in the center, but it covered up the middle motif of the cloth and it loses a lot of interest without that center square. I have always had a hard time getting good pictures of this tablecloth and this time was no exception. It is the clematis pattern I have shown before, but this is the version with the most depth and detail, and the most subtle coloration. I will have to keep trying to light it properly and do it justice. In the meanwhile though, it was an appropriate underscore to a sunny day in the company of dear friends.
