Now as the days get longer the next wave of wildflowers is springing up across the open hillsides. Blue camas (camassia quamash) has been spreading every year since I cut out the scotch broom. It creates a haze of blue on the rocky balds.
The return of the sun makes me anxious to begin gardening, but every year since we moved here I have been restricted to growing flowers in pots. For a couple years we cleared a small vegetable plot and had some successes, but when the big machines came in to dig the power and drainage ditches for the new house the garden got squished. Its amazing what a mess those giant bulldozers can make.
We are taking a break from big projects, but while I wait for the chance to build the flower garden I have imagined I can enjoy the ever growing blue wave.
