Well, the flood has receded and we are drifting idly in the pools left behind. The surgery was successful and Mike is recovering well, although it will be many weeks before we can expect him to achieve his former vigor. He is up during the day but takes frequent naps in the big chair before the fire. Wiki the cat supervises his activities and corrects his spelling. Thank you, thank you to all who have so kindly inquired about us and offered help. One of the silver linings of this experience has been the outpouring of attention from our friends and family. We are truly touched by everyone's concern.
The things that usually occupy my mind have disappeared for now. Textiles, tables, dyeing....I hardly think about them. The one project that has been my companion throughout is the scarf/table runner embroidery. I have been stitching diligently but am not even halfway done. I did experiments when I began, but I'm not sure I chose my stitches well. The fluid appearance of the pattern is almost lost through the embroidery and that is one of the things I liked best about it. The stitching encrusts the lines and makes them more static. The finished piece is going to be more about texture than I originally envisioned. The edges will be very important, and I still don't know how to handle them. When I get through with the middle more trials will be in order.
